Stoplifting

Stoplifting Clinic is a one-time class designed for first-time shoplifting offenders.  It is a type of diversionary program to help keep juveniles from entering the formal juvenile court system.

Referrals are made by the Elkhart County Juvenile Probation Department.

The class is two and a half hours in length and is held on the fourth Monday of every other month.

The class is divided into two parts for both the parents and the juvenile.  The first half of the class is educational with regards to the effects of shoplifting and is attended by both the juvenile and the parents/guardians.

The second half of the class involves the parents/guardians and juveniles splitting up and participating in group discussions.  The juveniles participate in a group that will help them come up with better choices in life.  The parents/guardians participate in a support group which allows them to discuss frustrations or difficulties they may be having with their children.  Each group is facilitated by a Bashor staff member.

The final part of the program requires the juveniles to write a letter of apology to the store from which they shoplifted.

The fee for the program is $50.00 - acceptable forms of payment include MasterCard, Visa, Cash or Money Order.
