The Indiana Foster Care Tax Credit
The Indiana Foster Care Tax Credit is a $2 million annual allocation of funding that allows for a 50% tax credit for contributions of up to $10,000 made to qualifying foster care organizations. Each fiscal year—beginning in July 2021 and ending in June 2027—there will be $2,000,000 available for the purpose of donating to an approved Foster Care Organization. Bashor Children's Home is one of those approved organizations and your donations will provide direct support to families and individuals in the foster care system.
These credits are available on a first-come first-serve basis. This is not a federal tax credit, and must be approved by the Indiana Department of Revenue.
To be eligible, the donor must:
- Pay Indiana taxes
- Donate to an eligible organization
- Claim their credit in the same taxable year that the donation was made.
The Process
- Make your monetary donation to Bashor Children's Home.
- We will provide proof of your donation.
- Submit your application & proof of donation to the Indiana Department of Revenue. These must be submitted via fax or by mail.
- Receive an approval letter from the Indiana Department of Revenue. A response indicating approval or denial will be provided within 45 days of receipt.

Why we need your donations
Your contribution goes towards providing services for the ever growing number of children who are abused, neglected, and in need of help in our communities.
Last year our residential programs helped over 175 at risk children from throughout the state of Indiana. We had children referred from 21 different counties, while almost half came from Elkhart County.
We continue to provide an exceptional education experience for the children living on our campus. In addition we also provide educational day services to over 60 children from our seven local school districts.
Again, thank you for your gift, and for showing the children we serve that the community truly cares about them.
Thank you for considering a donation towards the love and care of the boys and girls at Bashor Children’s Home.

Many companies encourage philanthropic interest among their employees by offering a matching gift program. This is an easy and effective way to double or even triple your contribution to Bashor. For more information on matching gifts, contact your human resources office to learn whether your employer has a Matching Gift Program.
Bashor Children’s Home offers ways to make a planned gift for people of all financial means. From will bequests, to purchasing bonds, to charitable remainder trusts, an experienced Bashor representative will work with you and your financial advisors to help you decide which type of planned giving plan, best suits your specific financial and philanthropic goals.
Gifts of appreciated securities such as stocks, mutual funds, and bonds can provide attractive benefits. An outright gift of long-term appreciated securities (securities held for more than a year) avoids capital gains taxes and in most cases, the donor obtains a charitable income tax deduction equal to the market value of the securities.
To make a gift of securities, IRA’s, 401K’s or other retirement plans to Bashor please contact Steve Riikonen in our Development Department at 574-875-5117.
It is the policy of Bashor Children's Home not to share, sell or trade a donor's personal information to any other entity in existence unless we receive written permission from the donor. Bashor Children's Home is a 501(c)(3) organization.
